About Koa Kai Canoe Club

Koa Kai Canoe Club was founded in 1979, by a group of Honolulu police officers. Thus, the club was initially called HPD (Honolulu Police Dept.) canoe club. Membership was limited to police officers. But they soon realized that the club could not grow if restricted to just police officers. So approximately 3 years later, membership was opened to all adults and children. Membership peaked at about 240 in the early nineties. Currently there are about 140 members registered. Koa Kai is located at Magic Island in Honolulu across from the Ala Moana Shopping Center.
